taking place locally. Though Indianapolis Economic Development
does not directly facilitate community development,
there are various other organizations in Indianapolis
which do. Many of those are listed below, along with
grants for community development, links to housing and
social services, neighborhoods, and other organizations
which impact the community.
BOS Community Development Corp.
A CDC created with the purpose of improving the quality
of life in the northwest part of downtown Indy. Other
names for this neighborhood include Midtown, Indiana Avenue,
and MEDIC (Midtown Economic Development and Industrial

(BID)
Property owners approve a supplementary assessment,

Environment (CUPE)
Mission is to work with state and local governments and

community leaders, and business and civic organizations
to identify issues, analyze options, and develop the capacity

Center on Philanthropy at Indiana
University
Mission is to increase the understanding of philanthropy
and increase its practice. Meets its goals through 4 program

Central Indiana Community Foundation
(CICF)

FOCUS Initiative ( formerly known
as the Indianapolis Urban Economic Development Initiative)
Creates an opportunity for a long-lasting relationship
that connects neighborhoods and their CDC's with businesses
to rebuild and revitalize the urban commercial market.
It's an attempt to make a systematic change in the planning,
advocacy, and delivery of commercial development projects
in Indianapolis urban neighborhoods. Also designed to
give neighborhoods a level of control in the economic
development initiative that will affect them most. The
initiative is a collaboration between the Greater Indianapolis
Chamber, the Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC),
and the Indianapolis Coalition for Neighborhood Development
(ICND), through a grant from the Indianapolis Foundation.

Responsible for re-developing the property that became
available at Fort Harrison.
Fund for Landmark Indianapolis
Properties (FLIP)
Historic Landmarks Foundation established this fund to
acquire historic properties.
Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee
(GIPC)
Provides a forum in which leaders of the public and private
sector of Indy can work together to study, discuss, and
address issues of concern and areas of opportunity which
affect the progress of the city. Includes business, civic,
religious, and educational leaders who advise the mayor

Neighborhood Assistance Program
(NAP)
A tool for raising funds for community projects. Through
this state-funded program, any business or individual
can get tax credits for donations to qualifying projects.
Typical NAP qualifying projects focus on low and moderate-income
housing, counseling services, day care, emergency assistance,
house facilities, job training, medical care, recreational
facilities, downtown rehabilitation, and neighborhood
commercial revitalization.
New Markets Tax Credit
Spur investment of $15 billion in new private capital
into a range of privately managed investment vehicles
that make loans and equity investments in New Markets
businesses. Overall objective is to spur investment
for business growth in urban and rural communities.
Markets in America's inner-cities and distressed rural
areas possess enormous untapped economic potential,
but need assistance in obtaining capital. This plan
can help them get that money. Eligible Community Development
Entities (CDE's) apply to the U.S. Treasury Department's
Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) fund
for an award of New Markets Tax Credits. Eligible CDE's
include CDC's, community development banks or venture
funds, small business investment companies focused on
low and moderate income communities, and New Markets
venture capital companies. Local CDE's include the Indianapolis
Neighborhood Housing Partnership and the Near North
Development Corp.
