The City of Indianapolis is committed to education!
Indianapolis offers a broad array of educational opportunities
for K-12 students in a private, public or parochial
setting.
Public Schools
While many communities are seeing a decline in their
public educational system, in Indianapolis, we are continuing
to see advancement in the quality of public education.
Indianapolis is home to 11 school districts with 30
individual schools designated as Blue Ribbon Schools
by the U.S. Department of Education. It has most recently
named the following Indianapolis schools as national
Blue Ribbon Schools:
- Charity Dye Elementary School
- Roncalli High School
- Saint Jude Catholic School
In addition, 12 schools in Marion County were named Four Star Schools by the State of Indiana for achieving student performance in the top 25 percent of all Indiana schools in four areas:
- Attendance
- ISTEP+ Mathematics proficiency
- ISTEP+ English/Language Arts proficiency
- Percentage of students meeting state academic standards on ISTEP+ in both Mathematics and English/Language Arts
Since 2002, public school options in Indianapolis have
expanded to include charter schools. There are currently
five in operation with anther five scheduled to open
by Fall 2005.
Indianapolis’ technical education continues to
meet the needs of businesses in our community. Central
Nine Career Center was recently named a national winner
of the Automotive Industry Planning Council’s
(AIPC) award in automotive technology.

Private and Parochial Schools
Indianapolis is also served by over 50 private and parochial
schools. Among the most competitive are:
- The International School – offering full emersion
Spanish and French programs and the only school in
Indiana to award the International Baccalaureate degree
- Park Tudor – a comprehensive college preparatory
program including 22 Advanced Placement courses which
boasts 100% of their graduates being admitted to competitive
four-year colleges and universities
- Orchard Country Day School – offering a Saturday
School for Japanese
- Sycamore School – a school that exists to
provide enriched accelerated education
